Conan mocks Cam Newton’s post-game press conference antics on CONAN, post Super Bowl 50.
Super Bowl 50 was just a few short days ago with the Denver Broncos beating the Carolina Panthers in a game that left Cam Newton at a loss. Newton struggled against a stout Broncos defense led by Von Miller, who made Newton look not so Superman-like.
As if things didn’t go poorly enough for Newton and the Panthers, the post-game press conference was a disaster for him. Newton was quiet, and only answered a few select questions. Even the questions he answered were short, dejected statements that seemed nothing like the guy named MVP. After getting fed up with the media and the comments being uttered behind him, Newton stormed out.
Conan O’Brien, the host of CONAN on TBS, went straight into making Newton’s press conference a joke.
Conan made the joke, “Cam Newton, more like Fig Newton.”
The crowd quieted and the producers played the sounds of crickets to make the joke seem pretty stupid. Conan then went through a mock press conference where he answered questions on the joke he made and eventually stormed out like Newton.
The reenactment of Newton’s post-game debacle is humorous, and lightens the mood surrounding Newton and Panthers. Conan knew this joke would be popular after such a change in mood by Newton.
Unfortunately for the Panthers, Super Bowl 50 didn’t turn out as planned. Instead it had the Panthers as the source for memes and jokes. Not the place you want to be. Check out Conan’s skit.
