Gennady Golovkin will be getting back into the ring this spring and it will be against Dominic Wade.

This spring is setting up to be pretty intriguing for the sport of boxing, especially in the middleweight division. On Wednesday we got the news that none other than Gennady Golovkin, GGG, will be stepping into the ring to put his undefeated record and unified middleweight title on the line against Dominic Wade. The fight will take place at the Forum in Los Angeles on April 23.

Golovkin is one of the most punishing fighters in the sport of boxing right now, carrying with him a record of 34 wins with no losses and 31 of those wins coming by way of knockout. He’s one of the fastest rising stars in all the sport, and he’ll look to get another notch in his belt on the 23rd with another win.

Wade comes in looking for the ultimate upset at 18-0 with 12 of those wins coming by knockout. While Wade has an unblemished record, this would still be considered a pretty big upset.

But, there is a bigger picture in all of this as it pertains to the middleweight division. There is another member of the division also fighting this spring, that being the man who holds the lineal middleweight title, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. He’ll be taking on Amir Khan in a fight that most of us expect him to win handily.

Should “GGG” get the win over Wade and Alzarez get the win over Khan, then really the well of excuses will have run dry as to why these two cannot get in the ring with one another come the fall to settle once and for all who is the best middleweight in the world.

The Golovkin-Wade fight will take place live on HBO.
