The Montreal Canadiens reportedly will be without Vezina Trophy winner Carey Price for the rest of the season

The Montreal Canadiens went into a tail spin without their star goaltender Carey Price. They were expecting to get him back at some point after the All-Star break but it appears that Price is done for the season with an MCL injury. This is likely the right move as Price got the injury after being rushed back. Another ligament injury could set him back even further.

Montreal will dearly miss Price. The goalie carried them during the 2014-2015 season and is a huge part of their team. He won the Vezina Trophy and the Hart Trophy as the league’s MVP last season and was doing well this season before his injury in November.

The Canadiens might not be completely out of the playoff picture even without Carey Price. They have won three straight games and despite their slump, have started playing well. Montreal is much better this year than last year looking at their possession numbers. All they required without Price was league average goaltending. They hadn’t gotten that until recently.

Montreal goalie Ben Scrivens has given them great play over his past three starts. That’s why they have won their past three games. Last season, Andrew Hammond came from out of nowhere to lead the Senators a playoff birth. Could Scrivens be this year’s Hammond?
