John Calipari had a little fun on Twitter after his Kentucky Wildcats beat the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday, 89-62, after his first half ejection.

Despite being ejected at the 17:34 mark in the first half of the Kentucky Wildcats’ road game against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Saturday afternoon, Kentucky head coach John Calipari went to Twitter to say how proud he was of his team. The Wildcats proved that they can win a tough SEC road game without him, beating South Carolina, 89-62.

Kentucky and South Carolina are two of five teams in the SEC that are probably going to end up making the NCAA Tournament. While Kentucky is expected to contend for Final Fours and national titles annually, Calipari knows that this year’s young team doesn’t have the dynamism that his one-loss club did last year.

Winning in Columbia against Frank Martin’s resilient Gamecocks team was a huge deal for this young Wildcats team that is finally hitting its stride. Kentucky has handled three of the SEC’s top half teams in Florida, Georgia, and now South Carolina in its last three games.

Sometimes basketball fans would joke that Calipari’s Kentucky teams were so talented that they could coach themselves and still win big time games. While the Hall of Fame coach is still the main cog in the Kentucky basketball machine, it’s great to see Calipari take a humbled jab at himself in a Wildcats’ victory he coach for two minutes and 24 seconds.

Beating South Carolina on the road by 27 points is still a huge win on Kentucky’s resume as the Wildcats look to improve their seeding in both the SEC and NCAA Tournaments. Even without Calipari, it’s still very hard to beat Kentucky on the hardwood.
