The Minnesota Wild have fired head coach Mike Yeo

The Minnesota Wild started off their 2015-2016 season with high hopes after making a run into the second round of the playoffs in 2014-2015. Those high hopes have disappeared as the Wild have now lost eight straight games and currently find themselves out of the playoffs. Someone had to take the blame for the Wild and their struggles. That person? Head coach Mike Yeo. The team has reportedly fired the head coach.

Mike Yeo will take the blame for the Wild’s struggles. Perhaps it is justified as he couldn’t lead the Wild to meet their high expectations or make the adjustments necessary to overcome their scoring woes. However, the problem likely lies much deeper than Yeo. Yeo will leave Minnesota with a record of 173-131-44 in his five seasons with the Wild. He let the Wild to the playoffs in each of the past three seasons and into the second round in the last two.

It remains to be seen what the Wild do to replace Yeo and how they plan on addressing the huge concerns that they have on offense. This could serve as a wakeup call to the players and perhaps a fresh voice in the locker room will help solve some of those issues. But this could also be the beginning of the end of the Wild’s current core of players.
