No. 5 Xavier Musketeers vs Butler Bulldogs

Before the season began, no one really gave the Xavier Musketeers much credit for being a top team. Sneaking in under the radar and now looking like one of college basketball’s top Final Four threats, the No. 5 Musketeers are in second place in the Big East. Coming off a tough loss to Creighton on the road, Xavier is looking to bounce back against Butler.

Xavier has one of the more balanced attacks from players one through six. Trevon Bluiett leads the team in scoring with 15.2 points to go along with 6.7 rebounds per contest. James Farr and Jalen Reynolds are two more guys who can cause havoc for opponents in the post, combining for 20.3 points and 15 rebounds per game.

Butler began the season ranked and many believed that they’d have a realistic shot at winning the Big East, but struggles in conference play have killed those hopes. Butler is just 6-6 in the Big East and 17-7 overall. An NCAA Tournament appearance is likely if the Bulldogs can just tread water until March, though.

Kellen Dunham and Kelan Martin both lead the team in scoring with 16.1 points per game, apiece. Dunham shoots just over 40 percent from three-point range while Martin is shooting over 42 percent from long-range to go along with 6.4 rebounds per game. Watch out for Roosevelt Jones as well — he’s averaging 14.3 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists.
