Liverpool embarrassed Aston Villa on Sunday, beating them 6-0 at Villa Park.

It hasn’t been the most memorable season for Liverpool, but it hasn’t been a terrible one either. The arrival of Jurgen Klopp in October signified a real change at Anfield, as the club look to become one of England’s top clubs again.

On Sunday, the Reds showed just how good they can be under the German tactician’s tutelage when they are at the top of their game, by absolutely obliterating Aston Villa in front of their own fans. Liverpool came into the match fighting for a spot in Europe next season, and they were not playing around on Valentine’s Day.

Daniel Sturridge put the first of six past Villa goalkeeper, Mark Bunn, when he made it 1-0 for the visitors in the 16th minute of play.

Just nine minutes later, James Mllner doubled Liverpool’s lead in the 25th minute when he found the back post off a free kick from distance.

Klopp’s men were far from finished there though, as things got even worse for the hosts in the second half. Emre Can made it 3-0 with a bullet to the bottom left corner of the net to make in the 58th minute.

Just five minutes later, a fourth goal-scorer on the day would emerge for the Reds with Divock Origi making it 4-0.

The nightmare would only continue for Bunn, as Nathaniel Clyne decided to get in on the action two minutes later in the 65th minute to make it 5-0.

Kolo Toure became the visitor’s remarkable sixth goalscorer on the day, when he headed home his first of the season to make it 6-0 in the 71st.

The loss was Aston Villa’s biggest home defeat since in over 30 years, when they were downed 6-2 by Arsenal in 1982. They will look to rebound from it next week when they travel to the Britannia Stadium to take on Stoke City.
