The Miami Dolphins are prepared to call off their trade with the Philadelphia Eagles over injury concerns regarding linebacker Kiko Alonzo.

With NFL free agency still hours away from officially beginning, all fans have had to hold them over is potential trades and reported deals that will take place in the coming days. It now appears that one major deal will no longer be taking place.

Per a report from ESPN NFL insider Ed Werder, the Miami Dolphins are nixing a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles that would have sent linebacker Kiko Alonzo and cornerback Bryon Maxwell south:

Maxwell was looking to be on his third team in the last three seasons, after signing with the Eagles as a free agent last year following four years (and one Super Bowl title) as a member of the Seattle Seahawks. Alonzo was acquired in a trade with the Buffalo Bills that sent LeSean McCoy away from Philly before the 2015 season.

The trade’s reported death has an effect on more than just the two players involved and the draft picks that also would have been exchanged between the Miami Dolphins and the Philadelphia Eagles. It means that, for the time being, cornerback Brent Grimes will still be a member of the Dolphins.

The former Pro Bowl defender has seen his numbers slipping and also had to deal with comments from his outspoken wife, Miko, about quarterback Ryan Tannehill that reportedly created a split in the Miami Dolphins’ locker room.
