How many ESPN brackets had Michigan State in Final Four?

A shocking number of people picked Michigan State to get to the Final Four, effectively busting their brackets.

Michigan State just suffered the biggest upset of the tournament so far after Middle Tennessee stunned them, 90-81. Upsets are common in March Madness but it can hardly be said that a lot of people saw this coming.

In fact, according to ESPN, almost 40 percent of their registered brackets had the Spartans making it to the Final Four, with 22 percent of them winning it all:

In addition, only 2.2 percent of brackets had Middle Tennessee advancing past the first round.

It is just another reminder that no opponent should be taken for granted and why the tournament is called March Madness. It’s a rarity for a Tom Izzo team to suffer a loss like this, considering that he’s built a reputation on delivering during the Tournament, having earned the nickname “Mr. March.”

The last time his team lost in the first round was back in 2011 and he took his team to the Final Four last year as a seven-seed. But the year that they were a favorite, and arguably a one-seed over Oregon, they suffered one of the biggest upsets in recent tournament history. This now sets up a matchup in the Round of 32 between Syracuse and the rest of America.
