The Cleveland Browns seem to be getting serious about signing Robert Griffin III.

When the Washington Redskins cut Robert Griffin III, one of the natural landing spots for him was in Cleveland. The Browns are a rotating door when it comes to quarterbacks and just about anyone who hits the free agent market can expect to be linked to the always changing Browns.

Robert Griffin III was a target for the Browns in the 2012 NFL Draft, and they may now finally land him in 2016. The team met with the former No. 2 overall pick this weekend and things seem to be getting serious in the Browns front office.

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Browns look to be getting serious about Robert Griffin III, as the team is making calls to colleagues about RGIII’s character and other questions that have arose around him.

Of course, this might be a case of the Browns making sure they leave no stone unturned in their hunt for quarterback solace but the Jets never did this when they met with RGIII earlier this month. That’s not definitive evidence that the Browns will be signing RGIII or anything, but it’s not a definitive sign they’ve lose interest.

The Browns signing Griffin almost makes too much sense to not happen. Hue Jackson’s offense could use a mobile quarterback like RGIII and the situation is a win-win for the quarterback in a way no other possible destination is. If things work out and RGIII reinvents himself, then he’ll be seen as a savior in Cleveland — which not even LeBron James can fully make happen.

If it all fails, then we’re more apt to blame the ineptitude of the Browns for the failure than we will RGIII — which would also work in his favor.
