Dan Mullen was bombarded with questions during a press conference after a Mississippi State spring practice on the Jeffery Simmons incident two weeks ago.

It seems very obvious, but Mississippi State Bulldogs head football coach Dan Mullen wants to get all the facts about the Jeffery Simmons incident that happened before coming to a decision about how to discipline his player. Simmons was charged assault and disturbing the peace for being in a fight two weeks ago.

According to Michael Bonner of the Clarion-Ledger covering Mississippi State athletics, Mullen tried to keep mum about the Simmons incident. After being asked by Bonner is several different ways, all the Clarion-Ledger beat reporter could pry out of the Bulldogs coach was, “We’ll evaluate it.”

Mullen did tell ESPN.com on Wednesday that Mississippi State University is in the process of gathering all the facts regarding the Simmons assault charges from a few weeks ago stating, “…Like any situation you get into, you evaluate all the details and research every aspect of it. Our responsibility is to make sure we investigate every part of it. I want to see some of the police reports…before I make a decision about what’s best for our program.”

Mullen does have Mississippi State football as a perennial bowl team in the brutal SEC West. Arch nemesis Ole Miss is too in a golden age on the gridiron in the mid-2010s.

While reportedly assaulting a female is never good, Mullen wants to make sure before making a decision on one of the state’s top players. Simmons is the No. 4 player in Mississippi and signed with Mississippi State back in early February as part of the 2016 recruiting class.
