Which teams play on MLB Opening Day?

Opening Day of the 2016 MLB season is Sunday, but exactly which teams are playing?

Baseball officially returns on Sunday with six teams playing on Opening Day. The highlight being a repeat of the most recent 2015 World Series as the Kansas City Royals open against the New York Mets. But that is the final game of the day, there are two more before that.

First up at 1:05 pm ET, is the St. Louis Cardinals at the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cardinals will send Adam Wainwright to the mound, while the Pirates will counter with Francisco Liriano. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

At 4:05 pm ET, the Toronto Blue Jays start the defence of their AL East crown against division rivals, the Tampa Bay Rays, at Tropicana Field. It will be a battle of young aces as Marcus Stroman gets the ball for the Blue Jays, facing off against Chris Archer. This game will also be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.

Finally, at 8:37 pm ET, the New York Mets visit the Kansas City Royals in a rematch of of the World Series. The Royals are going with Edinson Volquez as they begin their quest to repeat as World Series Champions. The Mets are replying by sending Matt Harvey to the mound. This game will be broadcast nationally as ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” game.

All of the other MLB teams open the 2016 season on Monday.
