Naesean Howard of Syracuse was charged with stabbing two of his former teammates in Corey Winfield and Chauncey Scissum.

The 2016 season for the Syracuse Orange will begin under a cloud, as one of their former players is in the news for all the wrong reasons. Naesean Howard, who was suspended by the team in 2014, tried to rejoin the team before the upcoming season, but his chances of coming back are zero after this latest incident.

Syracuse.com is reporting that Howard is charged with stabbing two 21 year olds identified as Corey Winfield and Chauncey Scissum, both of whom Howard used to play with.

"Officers went to a stabbing at 321 Slocum Ave. shortly after 6 p.m. Two men, 21, had been stabbed multiple times, police said. One victim was driven to the hospital in a private car while the other was taken to Upstate University Hospital by ambulance.Police don’t consider their injuries to be life-threatening.Police charged Howard, a West Genesee High School graduate, with two counts of assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. Howard, 20, was held in the Onondaga County Justice Center."

Scissum and Winfield are expected to be back with the team this year, but they are likely to miss an important part of the team’s offseason preparation. They are likely to miss an important time as we are heading into the part of the year when spring games are held and roster decisions are made. Not to mention, this is a lot to handle for coach Dino Babers’ first season at the helm.

This isn’t an incident that affects just the two players, but everyone in the institution. We hope that Scissum and Winfield are okay.
