The Dolphins really want Ezekiel Elliott, but will they trade up to draft him?

With the NFL Draft finally here, the Miami Dolphins are in need to finding a franchise running back for the first time since — well, forever. In the history of the Dolphins, specifically the recent 20-year history of the team, there hasn’t been a running back that has been able to carry the offense the way that the Fins have needed.

Perhaps the guy who could finally bring some firepower to the Dolphins backfield is Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott. Miami has already traded down in the draft after a deal with the Eagles earlier in the offseason and if they want Elliott then they’re going to probably have to trade up.

According to Peter Schrager, the Dolphins are really into the idea of drafting Elliott but they know trading up will probably be the way they do it.

That’s not a confirmation that the Fins will be moving up in the draft, or that Elliott won’t be there when Miami goes on the clock at No. 13. But if the Dolphins want to get Elliott, they’ll have to either move up past the Eagles, 49ers and most likely the Browns and Ravens — all of whom have been linked to Elliott.

Miami has a need for a cornerback as well, so if they stay put and Elliott is off the board, it’s very much not the end of the world.
