Looking at the selections on Day 2 of the 2016 NFL Draft for the New England Patriots

In the midst of everything going crazy in terms of top prospects falling in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft on Thursday evening, one of the things that seemingly got lost in the shuffle was the fact that the New England Patriots were nowhere to be found in the first round. Sure, their spirit was in Chicago at the draft with all of the people relentlessly booing Roger Goodell, but the Patriots were stripped of their first round selection after Deflategate and thus were left twiddling their thumbs on Thursday. What that does mean, though, is that Day 2 of the 2016 NFL Draft could be a big one for New England.

After not having a single selection in Round 1, the Patriots will get the chance to make four selections on Friday evening during Rounds 2 and 3 that will take place in Chicago. The Patriots will be picking at No. 60 overall and then right after at No. 61 as well thanks to the Chandler Jones trade with the Arizona Cardinals.

Once out of the second round, the Patriots will then have two more picks coming their way late in Round 3. New England is picking at No. 91 overall there and then has a compensatory selection at No. 96 overall.

Not having a first-rounder this year makes you think that the Patriots would be willing to use their picks to actually draft players. However, you can never discount the possibility of this team trading down for more picks later as that’s been their calling card in years past. More than anything, just keep an eye on the Pats now that they’re in the mix.
