Marlins star second baseman Dee Gordon has reportedly been banned for 80 games due to a positive test for PEDs

One of the best stories in Major League Baseball in recent years has been the performance of Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon. After mulling in mediocrity as a part-time player with the Los Angeles Dodgers at the start of his career, the Marlins gave the speedy infielder his shot and he Gordon stepped up by becoming one of the biggest threats at the plate and on the bases in the league.

However, he’ll be none of those things as he’s reportedly tested positive for PEDs and will now have to serve an 80-game ban.

Jon Heyman of MLB Network broke the news late on Thursday night that Gordon would be suspended by MLB for the 80 games, shocking the baseball world with the news seemingly appearing out of thin air:

Heyman’s report was soon confirmed by Major League Baseball, affirming that the ban is effective immediately:

Last season for the Marlins, Dee Gordon was absolute monster as he was named an All-Star in the National League, won a Gold Glove, and won the Silver Slugger while hitting .333. In addition, he also stole a ridiculous 58 bases on the year and scored a solid 88 runs on a bad Miami team.

While Gordon’s numbers had dipped from that level thus far this season, knowing that type of production could be coming had to bring the Marlins hope. Now those hopes have been dashed in a major way with this report.
