St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez is under investigation for domestic violence.

Domestic violence is a serious issue that all professional sports have been taking more seriously over the past few years. It started with the Ray Rice incident in 2014 in the NFL and continued with other high-profile situations.

This has dipped into the MLB with Aroldis Chapman of the New York Yankees being suspended for 30 games. Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes was in the news as well.

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez is the next one joining these baseball players under domestic violence scrutiny. According to ESPN, the Cardinals are investigating allegations of this in a civil lawsuit. Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said “We are just learning of this matter. I was notified by Carlos’ agent the other night. We will not be in a position to act until we have more information.”

This has the potential to be an ugly situation for the Cardinals, Martinez, and the MLB. The Cards may choose not to play him while this is going. Commissioner Rob Manfred may also choose to suspend the Dominican pitcher as well depending on how this situation progresses.

We’ll have to see where this goes for Carlos Martinez and the Cardinals. As of now, it’s turning into an ugly ordeal that will have to be dealt with by all the parties.
