The Cleveland Browns stockpiled 13 picks in the 2016 NFL Draft to try to transform their struggling football team. Here are the 13 newest Browns players.

Nobody in the 2016 NFL Draft enacted the trading back philosophy quite like the Cleveland Browns did. Cleveland had the No. 2 overall pick, moved back to No. 8 with the Philadelphia Eagles, and moved even further back to No. 15 with the Tennessee Titans to draft Baylor Bears wide receiver Corey Coleman. Here are the 13 players Cleveland selected in the 2016 NFL Draft.

  • Round 1 (15): Corey Coleman, WR, Baylor
  • Round 2 (32): Emmanuel Ogbah, DE, Oklahoma State
  • Round 3 (65): Carl Nassib, DE, Penn State
  • Round 3 (76): Shon Coleman, OT, Auburn
  • Round 3 (93): Cody Kessler, QB, USC
  • Round 4 (99): Joe Schobert, OLB, Wisconsin
  • Round 4 (114): Ricardo Louis, WR, Auburn
  • Round 4 (129): Derrick Kindred, S, TCU
  • Round 4 (138): Seth DeValve, WR, Princeton
  • Round 5 (154): Jordan Payton, WR, UCLA
  • Round 5 (168): Spencer Drango, OT, Baylor
  • Round 5 (172): Rashard Higgins, WR, Colorado State
  • Round 5 (173):Trey Caldwell CB, UL-Monroe
  • Round 7 (223):

Cleveland’s decision to trade back and stockpile draft picks turned out surprisingly well for a pretty stron 2016 NFL Draft class. The Browns lost a ton of players in 2016 NFL free agency, including offensive tackle Mitchell Schwartz, wide receiver Travis Benjamin, and center Alex Mack. Cleveland also cut defensive stars like safety Donte Whitner and linebacker Karlos Dansby.

As a result to combat this mass exodus from the Mike Pettine era to the Hue Jackson era in Cleveland, new general manager Sashi Brown and new front office executive Paul DePodesta, formerly from Major League baseball, seemed to find great value with many of their picks.

Both Colemans, Ogbah, and Nassib have the potential to be big impact players for the Browns. Kessler provides Jackson with a competent backup quarterback to compete with starter Robert Griffin, III. Schobert, Drango, Louis, and Higgins were all noticeable standouts in college for their respective teams.

Overall, what Cleveland did in the 2016 NFL Draft was surprisingly respectable. Cleveland will need a few of these picks to really hit for the Browns to turn their franchise around, but they achieved what they set out to do in stockpile premier college talent in their analytics movement in Northeastern Ohio.
