When Shane McMahon was first curiously given control of Monday Night RAW, one of his first orders of business was to start a tag team tournament to determine new No. 1 Contenders for the tag titles. After that tournament had played out, an old rivalry from NXT was set to be renewed at WWE Payback 2016 with Enzo Amore and Big Cass facing off with The Vaudevillains in the finals of the tournament.

Enzo and Big Cass were out first to deliver a lengthy promo in which they continued to get the crowd behind them with their biggest weapon: the microphone:

The match started with Enzo and Aiden English in the ring and English was the aggressor early on. Ever the savvy competitor, though, Enzo got to his corner to tag in Big Cass and change the momentum of the match.

Ever the ones to work together, it was Enzo and Cass using their teamwork with one another to get the upper hand early on, including some maneuvers with Cass throwing Enzo into both members of The Vaudevillains:

However, English got the advantage back by getting his boots up as Enzo went at him in the corner.

Things then took a scary turn, though, as Simon Gotch tried to send Amore to the floor and Enzo slid, but not quick enough and got his ribs and neck caught up on the ropes on his way outside:

The referee went down to check on him and Enzo was completely out. They threw up the “X,” called out the doctor, and brought out stretchers. The match ended there.
