Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told a local newspaper he “couldn’t sleep” after failing to trade up and pick quarterback Paxton Lynch.

The 2016 NFL Draft is in the books and, as usual, the Dallas Cowboys were one of the main focuses during the seven rounds this weekend. After selecting Ezekiel Elliott in the first round with the fourth overall pick, “America’s Team” wanted more.

Late in the first round, the Cowboys reportedly were making a push to trade back into the round in order to select former Memphis Tigers quarterback Paxton Lynch. Owner Jerry Jones and his crew weren’t able to pull the trigger, allowing the Denver Broncos to make the move and pick the 6’7″ quarterback with the 26th pick as a potential replacement for Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler.

Jones told the Fort Worth (TX) Star-Telegram that he still regrets not pulling the trigger on whatever it took to get that pick in order to take Lynch:

"“When I look back on my life, I overpaid for my big successes every time. And when I tried to get a bargain, get it a little cheaper or get a better deal on it, I ended up usually either getting it and not happy I got it. Or missing it.“And I probably should have overpaid here.”"

Jones later told the newspaper that he couldn’t sleep Thursday night after the first round and still regretted not making the trade the next morning. The Cowboys would draft a quarterback later on, selecting former Mississippi State Bulldogs quarterback Dax Prescott in the fourth round.

Currently, the Cowboys have three quarterbacks on their roster: Tony Romo (who is coming off two shoulder injuries suffered last season), Kellen Moore and Jameill Showers.
