Chris Webber thinks Game 6 of 2002 Western Conference Finals was fixed

14 years later, it doesn’t seem like Chris Webber has let go of what happened at a particular game.

In 2002, the NBA Western Conference Finals matchup saw the Sacramento Kings vs. the Los Angeles Lakers. This was the days of Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant’s Lakers and a Kings team made up of Chris Webber and Vlade Divac, among others.

Game 6 of the series is widely known to have been fixed in the Lakers’ favor. Former NBA referee Tim Donaghy claimed this was fixed during his own scandal in 2007.

In an appearance on Dan Patrick’s radio show on Wednesday, Webber was asked about Donaghy and his past allegations and said, “Believe me, there’s a lot about Donaghy I would like to talk about.” Patrick then asked if Webber felt he took part in a fixed NBA game and said the following.

"“I’ve definitely played a game — I’ve played one game in which yes, something smelled weird about the whole situation.”"

Webber doesn’t fully allude to this being about Game 6, but it’s easy to connect the dots.

The full interview can be seen here.

We probably won’t ever know for sure if that contest was fixed because Donaghy can’t be trusted,

Webber clearly has this game on his mind still, which is hard to blame him about. The Kings had their best chance of making the NBA Finals that year with their deep roster and the run they made. Nothing came of it and instead, they sit behind the Lakers in the history books when the early 2000’s of the NBA is discussed.
