Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather are reportedly finalizing a fight deal.

It’s been a whirlwind few months for UFC fighter Conor McGregor. He jumped up to a different weight class, only to get pounded by Nate Diaz and suffer his first official UFC loss since rising to the top. He then had a falling out with Dana White which resulted in his ‘retirement’ and dismissal from the UFC 200 card.

Now he’s in the middle of an interesting-if-true rumor involving Floyd Mayweather.

According to a rumor — and a pretty outlandish yet still somehow believable one — Floyd Mayweather will come out of retirement to fight Conor McGregor.

"The Sun can reveal that undefeated Mayweather, considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, is set to go toe-to-toe with the UFC star in Las Vegas this summer."

This hasn’t yet been confirmed by either of the fight camps but it’s also not the most unbelievable thing. We never believed that Mayweather was going to stay retired, one win shy of a 50-0 record.

It’s not unfathomable to believe that McGregor would want to tackle a different endeavor in his career. It’s the reason he jumped around weight classes in the UFC and it’s why no one would be surprised if — probably when — he joins the WWE in some capacity.

Then again, one of the reasons that McGregor reportedly clashed with White and the UFC was over heavily promotional tours focused on him and his talking. It would seem that a lot of the draw to a McGregor-Mayweather fight would be the press tour and the buildup.
