5 reasons Jeff Hornacek is wrong choice for Knicks
The New York Knicks hired Jeff Hornacek as the head coach on Wednesday and here’s why he’s the wrong choice.
The New York Knicks finally decided on a head coach Wednesday, passing up the opportunity to hire interim head coach Kurt Rambis, choosing former Suns coach Jeff Hornacek instead.
Hornacek, a former NBA All-Star, spent the better part of three seasons in the desert, coaching a young Suns team to an overall 101-112 record before getting canned in the middle of the 2015-16 campaign in the midst of a 14-35 start.
As one of the younger coaches in the league, Hornacek, 53, still has a lot of room to grow as the man in charge, and could do so with a talented roster. However, was New York really the best fit?
Phil Jackson certainly thought so.
Although many choose to support whatever Jackson decides to do given his track record, this hire of Hornacek is questionable given the current condition of the franchise. New York needed a major coaching addition who would be a game-changer, and Hornacek might not be it.
There’s no doubting he has the potential to one day grow into a serviceable coach, but to take over an organization that isn’t quite sure of its own identity won’t do him any favors.
The Knicks are coming off a 32-50 season in which they fired Derek Fisher before promoting Kurt Rambis to interim. Many were excited about the prospects of Fisher, but he didn’t quite pan out.
Hornacek is already set up for failure and is the wrong choice for the Knicks. Let us know if you agree or disagree with any of the reasons why in the comment section below.
