Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett has a solid chance of winning the 2016 Heisman, and here’s why.

Only three and a half months. That’s what college football fans keep telling themselves since this is one of the dead times of the year for the sport. All that there is to hold on to is position battle news and recruiting. Spring games are over and there’s no more scrimmages for fans and casual observers to hold themselves over with.

It’s never too early to look at who the top teams will be and which top players will take over.

Just like in the past few years, Urban Meyer’s Ohio State Buckeyes will be a national title contender. Since taking over in 2012, Meyer is 50-4 as the Buckeyes’ head coach and has had no more than two losses in a season.

With former quarterbacks Braxton Miller and Cardale Jones moving on to the next level, the starting job will be junior J.T. Barrett’s to lose. He earned the job when Miller went down with an injury two years ago as a true freshmen, but handed the reins to Jones when he was injured himself.

Now that he will have an entire year of starting once again, he could be a major Heisman Trophy contender. Like Troy Smith before him, Barrett looks to be the second Heisman winner in the past 10 years for Ohio State.

Let’s take a look at the five reasons why the junior dual-threat could win the 2016 Heisman. Agree or disagree with any of the reasons? Let us know in the comment section below.
