Do the Cubs keep the top spot?

Almost at the end of the second month of the baseball season. It seems like the season always flies by. We saw a former Cy Young Award winner come back and our first manager fired and a team lose their two best players to injury.

So let’s dive right in as we move into the rankings. Are there any changes near the top?

17. The Braves let go of Freddie Gonzalez this week and they managed to win a series in Philadelphia and hit some home runs in the process.. 5th NL East. Previous: . Atlanta Braves. 30. team

2. Their top prospects have come up and failed. They did some more shuffling around of their roster this week. On the plus side Eduardo Nunez is crushing the ball right now.. 5th AL Central. Previous: . Minnesota Twins. 29. team

28. team. 61. The Reds continue to lose games and lose pitchers as their bullpen has been historically awful this season. They are on a seven game skid.. 5th NL Central. Previous: . Cincinnati Reds

76. They played the Cubs and Mets tough this week, even taking two of three from Chicago. . 4th NL Central. Previous: . Milwaukee Brewers. 27. team

26. team. 96. The A’s got swept by the Yankees at home and lost Josh Reddick and Sonny Gray to injury. It’s getting close to sell time and Rich Hill could fetch them a nice haul.. 4th AL West. Previous: . Oakland Athletics

135. Everything went right last year for Houston and it’s the total opposite this year. This is a team that could sell pieces with expiring contracts and get some of the young assets back that they dealt last year. . 5th AL West. Previous: . Houston Astros. 25. team

The Padres continue to pitch pretty well and play teams tough. Do they pull the trigger and trade Melvin Upton Jr or Matt Kemp for assets and call up top prospect Hunter Renfroe?. 5th NL West. Previous: . San Diego Padres. 24. team. 127

8. Zack Greinke looks like himself again and they continue to get offensive production from Brandon Drury and Chris Hermann. They need to get better at home as they are 10 games under .500.. 4th NL West. Previous: . Arizona Diamondbacks. 23. team

102. The Angels won the Tim Linececum sweepstakes and Mike Trout is on fire this month. Maybe they can turn this thing around as CJ Wilson and Huston Street are close to returning?. 3rd AL West. Previous: . Los Angeles Angels. 22. team

Tampa Bay Rays. 21. team. 21. The Rays lead the league in homers, but just lost another big piece for a while in Kevin Kiermaier.. 4th AL East. Previous:

Previous: . Miami Marlins. 20. team. 82. What has happened to Giancarlo Stanton?. 4th NL East

43. Carlos Beltran is raking and the Yankees rotation was much better this week. The three headed monster at the end of games helps.. 3rd AL East. Previous: . New York Yankees. 19. team

2nd NL West. Previous: . Rockies. 18. team. 108. The Rockies continue to hang around in the NL West. Tyler Chatwood has given the team a huge lift in the rotation. Big test this week for them against the Red Sox and Giants.

Awful record in non Clayton Kershaw games and their bullpen was horrendous this week. Even Kenley Jansen struggled. They, like every contender, are going to need to add arms in the bullpen and need their stars to step up.. 3rd NL West. Previous: . Los Angeles Dodgers. 17. team. 71

team. 39. Stars are struggling and John Gibbons is getting thrown out of games left and right. Bullpen awful as well. They couldn’t sell in July. Could they?. 5th AL East. Previous: . Toronto Blue Jays. 16

Philadelphia Phillies. 15. team. 6. They continue to roll though their bullpen usage for their big three is quite high. I think they are better off with Tommy Joseph at first base everyday. They have to see if he is the future there.. 3rd NL East. Previous:

14. team. 63. Michael Fulmer looked more like the pitcher they traded for last season this week. They have to hope Jordan Zimmermann’s injury isn’t too serious.. 4th AL Central. Previous: . Detroit Tigers

7. Mike Moustakas is back and they are playing better ball. Big week against the Twins and White Sox.. 3rd NL Central. Previous: . Kansas City Royals. 13. team

team. 33. Rough week this week and a big test with the Cubs and Nats this week. Big positive that Adam Wainwright pitched so well in his lone start.. 3rd NL Central. Previous: . St. Louis Cardinals. 11

Nice extension for Francisco Cervelli this week. A lot of production for this offense and this is without Andrew McCutchen getting it going yet. Will they promote their top pitching prospects to help the rotation?. 2nd NL Central. Previous: . Pittsburgh Pirates. 10. team. 4

126. Yu Darvish is set to make his return Saturday. Could Shin-Soo Choo head back to the DL?. 2nd AL West. Previous: . Texas Rangers. 9. team

62. Welcome to the top 10 Seattle. Bullpen has been doing the job. They have a big 10 game stretch to build a lead against Oakland, Minnesota and San Diego.. 1st AL West. Previous: . Seattle Mariners. 8. team

White Sox hadn’t won a non Chris Sale game in a couple weeks until yesterday. GM Rick Hahn said he was ready to make a big move, could it be for a bat?. 1st AL Central. Previous: . Chicago White Sox. 7. team. 128

team. 11. O’s keep rolling along and keep hitting. Have to hope Yovanni Gallardo returns soon to help the rotation. Chris Tillman looks like the pitcher he was a couple of years ago.. T-1 1st AL East. Previous: . Baltimore Orioles. 6

5. team. 14. The offense keeps doing damage. Getting Joe Kelly back helps the rotation.. T-1 AL East. Previous: . Boston Red Sox

4. team. 40. The hottest team in baseball keeps rolling. They finally got a win out of the combo of Matt Cain and Jake Peavy. They may need another starter this year before the deadline.. 1st NL West. Previous: . San Francisco Giants

Previous: . New York Mets. 3. team. 3. For all the worrying about Matt Harvey this week, Lucas Duda’s back may be more of an issue for this club moving forward.. 2nd NL East

Good job in New York this week. Big lift taking the series from the Mets. Can they do it again this week?. 1st NL East. Previous: . Washington Nationals. 2. team. 90

1st NL Central. Previous: . Chicago Cubs. 1. team. 9. No reason to take them out of the top spot. I’d be concerned about Jason Heyward offensively and I think it might be in their best interest to keep Jorge Soler going.
