Alexander Rossi won the 100th running of the Indy 500, so he was more than ready to hit up his milk celebration in Victory Lane

There were so many big names competing in the 100th running of the Indy 500 that you would have had to guess that one of the favorites or historic names in the sport would reign victorious. However, as guys like Townsend Bell, Juan Pablo Montoya, and Ryan Hunter-Reay dropped off the map due to wrecks throughout the race on Sunday, the gateways opened up for Alexander Rossi.

If you hadn’t heard of Alexander Rossi prior to the Indy 500, that wouldn’t be surprising. This was his first running of the Indy 500 and he just recently made the switch to the IndyCar series. However, as Carlos Munoz and others faded away down the stretch, it was the rookie that pushed his fuel mileage to the brink and won his first Indy 500.

As is customary and traditional in the Indy 500, Alexander Rossi took to Victory Lane (after being towed there because he pushed his fuel so far, no less) and then got to celebrate. He was first donned with the wreath and then handed his milk for the traditional chugging milk celebration:

And here’s the full celebration from another angle:

Even if it’s hard to imagine chugging milk after being in all of that gear in the heat on the race track, there aren’t many better traditions in sports than this one at the Indy 500. So to see a young rookie like Alexander Rossi get to enjoy that moment only makes it all the more incredible.
