Entering his 18th season as the head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners, Bob Stoops will reportedly get an extension and his assistants will get raises.

In the decade before Bob Stoops took over as head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners, the once proud program had fallen on hard times that include four straight seasons of non-winning seasons and not even a sniff of a conference or national title.

In the 17 seasons since, the Sooners have brought home a Big 12 championship in eight of his years (and tied for another crown) while winning the 2000 national title and playing for three more crowns while making it to the College Football Playoff last season.

All that was more than enough to get Stoops more years on his contract and some more cash in his check, according to the Tulsa World:

"Coach Bob Stoops’ salary will increase $25,000 on Jan. 1, 2017 and Jan. 1, 2019, the regents announced Tuesday. He made $5.4 million in guaranteed pay in 2015 and will be paid $5.55 million in 2016. His contract, which previously ran through 2020, was extended to 2021"

Stoops wasn’t the only member of the staff who got a raise, as both coordinators and the rest of the staff will see some sort of raise:

"(Offensive coordinator Lincoln) Riley, who made $500,000 during his first year with the Sooners, received a raise to $850,000 annually. An annual $50,000 stay bonus, paid in 2016 and 2017, was also implemented in Riley’s contract.Defensive coordinator Mike Stoops received a $50,000 raise to his $850,000 annual salary."

Bob Stoops and the rest of the Sooners’ coaching staff will get a chance to show they have earned their money when Oklahoma opens the season on the road against Houston. It’s part of a schedule that includes Big 12 foes Texas, Oklahoma State, TCU and Baylor in addition to the Cougars in the opener and a September 17th game against Ohio State.
