After falling greatly, Deyonta Davis was taken by the Celtics with the No. 31 pick in the 2016 NBA Draft—but was immediately traded to the Grizzlies

The 2016 NBA Draft was supposed to be the day that former Michigan State Spartans big man Deyonta Davis realized his dreams. In fact, there was plenty of talk leading up to the draft that Davis could potentially be a lottery pick or at least something close. In reality, though, he wasn’t anywhere close at all on Thursday night in Brooklyn.

As the picks came off the board one-by-one during the NBA Draft, Deyonta Davis continually wasn’t called. After 28-29 of the 30 picks in the first round, he was so fed up at that point that he had to actually leave the green room in Brooklyn. However, he came back for the start of the second round as he was drafted by the Boston Celtics at No. 31.

Of course, his day still wasn’t making him look to great as his rights were immediately “traded” to the Memphis Grizzlies for a 2019 first-round pick:

It’s one thing to tumble down draft boards in a big way and watch yourself lose money time and again, but it’s another to finally be coming off of the board and then find out that your rights are already being traded. That’s a rough night for Deyonta Davis.

However, if you wanted to help him right the ship, the best way would be for him to use this as motivation moving forward. If he does, it could be something special as Davis has the tools to succeed.
