Handing out grades to every team for their showing in the 2016 NBA Draft

In the NBA, there’s no one event quite like the NBA Draft. There’s so much to love about what happens on draft night. The timing of it coming right after the Finals is always interesting as it makes it feel like it’s happening at a frenetic pace, but it’s also not lost on anyone how cool and special of a moment it is to see young men realizing their dreams and taking the next step to become a professional.

Of course the 2016 NBA Draft was no different as the teams from throughout the league were again put in a situation where they could make big moves for their future and where they had to decide what kind of risks to take and just how all-in they should go in areas.

What resulted on Thursday night was one of the most chaotic first rounds and NBA Drafts that we may have ever seen before. Players projected to go in the lottery went tumbling down draft boards, blockbuster trades were made, and so on and so forth.

It was a wild night in the NBA, but the dust has now settled. All trades are agreed upon in principle, all 60 picks have been made, and now it’s time to assess what happened. Now it’s time to judge the teams in the league and grade their performance in the 2016 NBA Draft.

Before that, though, it needs to be said that the Charlotte Hornets, Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers, and the Washington Wizards all did not have a pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. However, the Cavaliers bought a second-round pick. Other than that, only the Hornets and Wizards will be discussed and “graded” though.

Now that we have the logistics of the matter out of the way, onto the report card. These are the grades for each team coming out of the 2016 NBA Draft.
