Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay loves to rock out in his suite at Lucas Oil Stadium, so no surprise he paid six figures for Prince’s Yellow Cloud guitar.

According to the Associated Press, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay spent $137,500 at an auction to land the late Prince’s iconic Yellow Cloud guitar. The opening bid for the famous guitar once belonging to Prince started at $30,000.

Irsay is a huge fan of rock and roll and is known to rock out at Lucas Oil Stadium in his suite from time to time. Over the years, he has collected instruments from the late guitarist/singer of the Grateful Dead Jerry Garcia, instruments once belonging to two of the members of the Beatles in the late John Lennon and popular drummer Ringo Starr, and from the most influential singer-songwriter of all-time in the one and only Bob Dylan.

Prince used Yellow Cloud up to and through the mid-1990s. He continued to make, write, and perform music until his untimely death in April at the age of 57 at his Minneapolis compound.

With the addition of Prince’s Yellow Cloud guitar, Irsay’s musical instrument collection from Rock and Rock Hall of Famers gains in its impressiveness. Not only could Prince serenade the most delicious of melodies, but the diminutive rock god could also shred on the electric guitar. His solos were otherworldly.

While it’s still tough to not have a musical icon as impactful as Prince with us any more, his music is timeless and will continue to reach new listeners in perpetuity. Though Irsay ended up paying over $100,000 more than the initial bidding price to acquire Prince’s famous Yellow Cloud guitar, it’s definitely worth it to the rock and roll enthusiast and owner of the Colts.

Acquiring a Prince guitar is cool in that it is custom-made and it is like nothing else on Earth, much like the rock and roll icon that once played it.
