Tiger Woods’ son following in Dad’s footsteps
By Brad Weiss
Although Tiger Woods’ career is on hold for the time being, his seven-year-old son is picking up the slack for his old man, finishing T-2 in a junior event this week.
For many adult amateur golfers, shooting a legitimate 55 in nine holes would be a good round. But when you’re the offspring of arguably the greatest golfer in history, that is just something you accomplish by seven years old.
Charlie Woods, the son of Tiger, finished T-2 in a U.S. Kids junior event on Thursday, missing out on the top spot by five strokes. The round was played at Mayacoo Lakes Country Club, and is part of the U.S. Kids Golf Boys 7 event on the West Palm Beach Local Tour.
The elder Woods was actually in attendance, flying down from hosting this week’s Quicken Loans National near Washington, D.C. to see his son play. The 14-time major winner has not played competitively in ten months, so he is going to have to live vicariously through his son for the time being.
The world was introduced to Tiger Woods when he was almost three years old on The Mike Douglas Show. Along with his father, Earl, Tiger showed his prodigy status by making some putts and hitting some drives off artificial turf.
It would be almost impossible for young Charlie to have the kind of career his father did, but the kid is headed in the right direction.
