In a few years, we will get two meetings between college football powerhouses in Auburn and Penn State

With the college football season fast approaching here in 2016, we’re learning more about some matchups that we’re going to see in the future. In a few years, the Penn State Nittany Lions and Auburn Tigers will be doing battle.

It was announced on Monday that Penn State and Auburn have scheduled a home-and-home series in 2021 and 2022.

And for a little bit of trivia in regards to this announcement, this will mark the first time in their illustrious history that Auburn will be playing a Big Ten opponent in the regular season.

With the classic North vs. South tie-in here, this announcement on Monday is pretty amazing news. We’ve seen the past few years that there is a developing rivalry between the Big Ten and the SEC, so who knows how much bigger it could be by the time these two are actually ready to meet on the field early in the regular season.

Also, it should be noted again that this is a home-and-home agreement, with Auburn kicking it off in 2021 by making a trip to Happy Valley. These will not be neutral site games, something a lot of people have a problem with.

Auburn and Penn State have met one another on the field twice in bowl games, with the last meeting coming in 2003, a 13-9 win for the Tigers in the Capital One Bowl.
