With free agency just around the corner, Pau Gasol is reportedly being sought by the San Antonio Spurs along with several other stars.

By the end of the week, NBA Free Agency will be in full effect and we will have players from all over the league in new cities with plenty of additional cash in their bank accounts. With the salary cap going up close to $25 million from last season, the rich are likely set to get richer when it’s all said and done.

One of those teams could be the San Antonio Spurs. While many thought the 2015-16 season, which included 67 regular season wins before losing in the Western Conference semifinals to Oklahoma City, was going to be the swan song for the current team, it appears that the Spurs aren’t ready to hang them up yet.

With the team being one of the six destinations that Kevin Durant will visit during his free agent tour, San Antonio is looking at several other stars in an effort to make one more title run. One of those players is Pau Gasol. According to one Yahoo! Sports insider, the Spurs are seriously interested in getting Gasol to leave the Chicago Bulls for the Lone Star State:

"“I’m told that Pau Gasol is a real priority for them. They tried to get him before he signed with Chicago. The Bulls were able to offer him a little bit more than the mid-level that year, I think the Spurs had a mid-level for him. They can maneuver in San Antonio and probably be able to offer him market value. We’ll see what that’s going to be.”"

San Antonio made a serious run at Gasol last year before he signed a two-year deal with Chicago and the Spurs signed Lamarcus Aldridge. Now that Pau Gasol has opted out of the second year, the idea of San Antonio landing Gasol and Durant to go along with Aldridge is something that might be too scary to not be afraid of.
