The Boston Celtics drafted a man with character when selecting Jaylen Brown third overall in the 2016 NBA Draft.

The Boston Celtics are a team on the rise. After making the playoffs in 2016 with a relatively young roster, the Celtics had the luxury of owning the No. 3 overall pick in this year’s draft thanks to the deal that sent Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to the Brooklyn Nets.

The pick was used on California’s Jaylen Brown, a 6-foot-7 forward who decided to leave college after one season.

He was recently part of a Celtics-run youth clinic, where he put a young kid in his place.

The size difference between the two makes the dunk less ferocious than it could have been, but Brown made it clear to MassLive.com that there was a reason he threw down the dunk:

"“You have to have that instinct,” Brown smiled after the clinic, which was put on to celebrate the Celtics’ renovations of the Roxbury gym. “He challenged me and I just blacked out. He said, ‘You ain’t good.’ He said Ben Simmons (the No. 1 overall draft pick) is better. So I said alright, OK.”"

Well let’s hope Brown doesn’t actually black out when he gets some trash talk sent his way in the NBA, because it is going to be infinitely worse coming from someone like Lance Stephenson or Kevin Garnett.

He was clearly just having some fun with the kid, but he needs to show that he is mentally tough this season. Celtics fans booed when he was selected, so he needs to be ready for the criticism he may take and use that as motivation to prove why the team took a chance on him with the third overall pick.
