CFL player hits opposing team’s coach after touchdown (Video)

The CFL proved why it’s much tougher than the NFL when a player hit the opposing team’s coach after celebrating a touchdown.

The preconceived notion that all Canadians are polite needs to go away, like forever, after watching this. The CFL (or Canadian Football League) hardly gets any play in the States, perhaps because there’s only nine teams and there’s only so much parity you can have in a league as small as that. But the games are competitive, the fans are passionate, and the bad blood is real.

In a game between the Montreal Alouettes and Ottawa Redblacks, Montreal player Duron Carter scored a touchdown then proceeded to shove the other team’s coach. That started a skirmish between the two teams while the refs just stood there and let it all play out.

Credit to our friends at The Cauldron for snagging this, or else it might’ve gone straight under the radar:

And anyone who regularly watches the CFL knows that stuff like this is commonplace. Coaches don’t get hit all the time, but brute physical contact is the norm, and they dish out hits that are a lot harder than the ones you see in the NFL:

Anyone who would attempt to do either of those things in the NFL would probably have received a lifetime suspension. Hell, they hand out 15-yard penalties just for celebrating. It’s possible that Duron Carter may receive a sanction for his actions, but at least at the time being, the refs were content to let it play out.

With a play like that, it doesn’t even matter what the final score is, since this has generated a ton of buzz not only for the game itself, but for the league. Perhaps with the attention this play is getting, there will be more CFL games that will be televised soon.
