Recent NBA Rumors have been about where point guard Mike Conley will sign this offseason. Can we cross the Orlando Magic off that list?

With NBA Rumors swirling around like crazy this time of year, one of the best available point guards in free agency this season is Mike Conley. Although he has a list of suitors, it doesn’t appear that the Orlando Magic are one of them. According to Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel, the Magic aren’t expected to pursue Conley in free agency.

The Magic did recently create a bit of a void in their backcourt with the trade that sent Victor Oladipo to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Serge Ibaka. The backcourt of Oladipo and Elfrid Payton didn’t work out too well for the Magic last season, and the lack of interest in Conley indicates that the Magic are comfortable moving forward with Payton as their point guard.

Instead of targeting Conley for their backcourt, the Magic may decide to re-sign Evan Fournier, or possibly look to sign Jamal Crawford. Whether it be either or those two players or another free agent shooting guard, that appears to be the plan for the Magic moving forward this offseason.

For Conley, it will be difficult for another team to pry him away from the Memphis Grizzlies, as they can offer him the most amount of money. In addition to the financial side of things, the Grizzlies are still a very good team if they retain Conley to continue to play with Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph. Even though they were decimated by injuries last season, the Grizzlies still made the playoffs in the Western Conference, and would likely be in them once again next season if Conley re-signs.
