According to Pierre LeBrun, free agent forward Jamie McGinn has agreed to a three year deal with the Arizona Coyotes worth a total of $10 million.

The Arizona Coyotes entered the 2016 NHL offseason with a ton of cap space needing to improve. They have reportedly agreed to a three year deal worth $3,333,333 per season with former Anaheim Ducks and Buffalo Sabres wing Jamie McGinn.

The Coyotes had to overpay a little bit for McGinn, but it’s not a terrible overpay by any standards if McGinn can stay healthy. He’s a big forward who knows how to use his size and has proven to be lethal around the crease. McGinn cashed in on a career season in 2015-16, scoring a career high 22 goals and accumulating a career high 39 points. He is very disciplined considering how physical he is with 164 hits compared to just 33 penalty minutes in a total of 84 games split between the Sabres and Coyotes in 2015-16.

While Arizona is taking a bit of a gamble on McGinn to stay healthy and remain productive, McGinn has usually been a productive forward when healthy. He should be a mighty fine fit wherever he plays because of his strong two-way game.

McGinn should help improve the Coyotes power play as well, giving them an excellent presence around the crease. Analytics favor McGinn, so it’s not a surprise that the new age Coyotes front office, driven by analytics, saw a fit with McGinn.
