Johnny Manziel’s jersey price has dropped as low as $1.99 in some retail stores.

There was a time not so very long ago that Johnny Manziel was flashing his trademark ‘money’ sign as he scrambled into SEC and NFL end zones.

Now the only money sign being flashed in connection with Manziel will come from the hands of thrifty bargain-bin shoppers who can score a Johnny Football jersey for less than the price of a Happy Meal.

It’s a dramatic rise-and-fall narrative that’s all too familiar in the world of athletes and celebrities who can’t control their personal demons. Manziel, of course, has become more famous for his partying antics and penchant for getting into legal trouble than he is for throwing a football. The former Cleveland Browns quarterback appeared in court a little over two months ago for his role in a domestic assault case filed by his former girlfriend, and his name and likeness have become a mainstay over the years in media and gossip outlets like TMZ and Perez Hilton.

The Browns finally reached a breaking point with their troubled young star last season, benching him repeatedly throughout the team’s 2015 campaign before ultimately releasing him altogether last March. In the meantime, Manziel was dropped by his sports agent, publicly called out as a life-threatening danger to himself by his own father, and now faces a long NFL offseason as a free agent no self-respecting team wants to take a chance on.

The icing on the cake is this Twitter photo. It’s proof that sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words. It’s a funny image but a tragic one, and it effectively sums up Manziel’s brief Browns career in a nutshell.
