One of the most popular video game franchises in history will be heading to the big screen soon, and Legendary Pictures may be the studio behind it.

Pokemon has been an extremely popular video game franchise for so long, both for kids and adults, and thanks to the recent success of Pokemon GO, which released last week, it’s now become mainstream for many people. Millions of players have downloaded the new app and are on a quest to catch them all. But besides the video game app, some more Pokemon news has dropped stating that rights to a live action film may be going to Legendary Pictures. Deadline has the scoop.

For a long time now, many studios have been campaigning for the rights to a live action Pokemon film, and it seems that Legendary is the front runner. Since Pokemon GO has been so successful, it seems that Hollywood has renewed interest in making a film based on the game. Nothing is for sure at this point, but it would definitely be interesting. The Pokemon series has had many successful animated films, but none that were live action.

Video game film adaptations have been very popular recently. For example, this year alone, we’ve already had two video game films that have been released. There was Ratchet & Clank and most recently Warcraft. But those two films suffered the same fate that most other video game film adaptations have; namely, they aren’t very good.

There’s another video game film that will be releasing later this year, which is Assassin’s Creed. Here’s hoping that one could destroy the curse of bad video game films.

Regardless, if a live action Pokemon film does end up happening, many fans from across the world would be extremely interested.
