Recent MLB Trade Rumors have connected the Texas Rangers with San Diego Padres All-Star pitcher Drew Pomeranz.

The 54-36 Texas Rangers have the best record in the American League and all but guaranteed to be major buyers prior to the upcoming MLB Trade Deadline. According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Rangers have their eye particularly on San Diego Padres All-Star SP Drew Pomeranz.

Pomeranz has kicked around the league the past few years, having varying degrees of success as both a reliever and a starting pitcher. The Padres acquired Pomeranz this off season, and gave him a full-time opportunity as a starter, and he has taken that opportunity and ran with it.

Despite the Padres’ struggles this season, the Pomeranz has been incredible. He enters the All-Star break with a 2.47 ERA, striking out an impressive 10.1 batters per nine innings. The 27-year-old lefty has really turned a corner this season, and could be a major addition to any competitive team’s starting staff.

The Rangers have been great this season, but they could certainly use another impact arm in the rotation. Cole Hamels is obviously great, and Yu Darvish should return from injury soon. That being said, there is a lot of unknown throughout the rest of the rotation.

A team clearly ready to compete for a World Series title, adding a potential impact starter like Pomeranz makes plenty of sense. That being said, if the Padres are truly interested in selling him, there will likely be a lot of competition.

Who wouldn’t want a 27-year-old All-Star starting pitcher who is not even arbitration eligible until this coming off season? The Rangers chasing Pomeranz certainly makes a ton of sense, but there is sure to be a ton of teams interested.

Acquiring him will not be cheap.
