Baylor hires Mizzou athletic director Mack Rhoades to help clean up the university’s image.

If you haven’t heard anything about what’s going on at Baylor, you might want to step away from the rock you’re living under. Everyone across the country knows about the sexual assault coverup scandal that has been breaking all throughout this summer.

The scandal led to the resignation of Baylor’s Athletic Director, the move of the President to the role of Chancellor, and the firing of dynamic head football coach Art Briles outright. The contents of the documents that led to these decisions is a matter of controversy, as the full documents haven’t been released, and it’s rumored that the Board of Regents who fired Briles might be just as guilty as the former coach.

Regardless, life at Baylor moves on in the form of Jim Grobe, former Wake Forest head coach with a reputation for having a clean slate in terms of scandals and player arrests. The next chapter for Baylor will also include Mack Rhoades, who is making his third stop of the past 17 months.

Rhoades is stepping into a firestorm. The situation at Baylor has been so bad for so long that there have been cries to sanction the football program extremely for its involvement in the crimes and the subsequent cover-up. Rhoades is no stranger to controversy though, as he’s leaving behind a race crisis at Missouri that saw enrollment dip to record-low numbers. Ultimately, this is a win for Baylor, as they get an AD that is used to controversy and has experience at the Power 5 level.
