In a rare outside looking in moment for CLG, they defended their Nexus to take a 1-0 lead over Immortals in a match with playoff implications.

Despite some early struggles for CLG, they look to be back in form as we get into the heat of the NALCS Summer Split. In the first round of a crucial fight against Immortals, CLG was down to one Nexus Tower and three members to the five from Immortals.

Somehow, CLG defended it.

Darshawn, playing as Jax, dove straight into the Immortals back line, picking up the kill on the AD Carry. With their main damage-dealer done, Immortals began to retreat despite having a 4-3 advantage and no towers between them and victory via Nexus destruction. CLG hunted the rest of Immortals down, picking up four kills and pushing Immortals back to the middle of the map. Later on, prolific CLG Support Aphromoo landed an amazing Bard ultimate on the Immortals back line, negating all damage. The rest of CLG quickly finished Immortals off, securing the win for the embattled team.

CLG is a historic power in League of Legends that has been struggling recently. They’re 6-6, and if Cloud 9 and Immortals kept on racking up wins, they might have been left out of the NA playoffs entirely.

It wasn’t a season-saving win for CLG, but it was a very important one. Their ridiculous Nexus defense put the pressure on Immortals to make something happen in Round 2. The more CLG wins, the better their chances are of not being left in the dust in midst of a strong split for Immortals and a historic split for the 12-0 Team SoloMid.
