The Indianapolis Colts’ mascot has been named mascot of the year… by who?

Blue, the Indianapolis Colts’ mascot, has been declared the 2016 mascot of the year. By who you ask? Why, the other mascots of the NFL, of course!

Considering that the mascots are the ones who “vote” on this, this might just be an award that rotates from team to team, especially when you realize that Captain Fear of the Bucs could probably just bully all the other happy mascots into giving him the award every year.

Blue is a pudgy blue horse who has completely and totally owned his body type.

And from the looks of it, he was super shocked to receive the award.

However, we can’t declare anyone the best mascot of the entire NFL when there are still NFL teams without mascots. Until the New York Jets recruit Jay Jay the Jet Plane, the Oakland Raiders make a mascot version of Ice Cube, the Green Bay Packers somehow make a block of gouda cheese into a suit, The Washington Redskins come up with something non-offensive, and the New York Giants reanimate Andre the Giant to stand on the sidelines, this competition is moot. We can’t have a true winner until the last 4 teams stop holding out.

Mascots in the NFL are a strange topic. They’re not as frowned upon as NFL bands, but the remaining 5 teams holding out would suggest that they aren’t a requirement for teams. Regardless, they’re fun to have around at games, even if most of their eyes look like they’ve had three too many cups of coffee this morning.
