DraftKings daily picks: Fantasy baseball shortstops-July 21
Identifying the top high salary and value shortstop plays from around Major League Baseball for your July 21 DraftKings lineup.
Our goal is to help you win DraftKings contests with consistently strong lineups. To accomplish that, we’ll be highlighting some higher salary players worth paying up for, and some value picks that will help you save salary in key areas. These picks are specifically for DraftKings lineups, so all references to prices and fantasy points are based on DK figures.
As always, be sure to double-check final MLB lineups and monitor weather situations before locking in your DFS lineups.
High Salary
Trevor Story, Rockies (5,200): Story went hitless in Wednesday’s series finale against Tampa Bay, but he’s been red-hot over the last week, posting three games of double-digit DK points. Story and the Rockies remain at Coors Field Thursday to open a series with the last-place Atlanta Braves. Las Vegas expects plenty of runs (7.0) against righty Mike Foltynewicz (3-3, 3.70 ERA).
Aledmys Diaz, Cardinals (5,000): Diaz’s brilliant rookie season continues as he’s now hit safely in eight of his last 10 games. Over that stretch, he’s tallied double-digit DK points seven times. He’s a particularly inviting play against right-handers, against whom he is hitting .327 this season. Diaz is a solid play Thursday against San Diego Padres righty Andrew Cashner (4-7, 5.05 ERA).
High Value
Xander Bogaerts, Red Sox (4,300): Bogaerts isn’t the cheapest shortstop option available Thursday, but he’s the best bang-for-your-buck option. Bogaerts has the upside of Story and Diaz, but for nearly 1,000 less in salary. He’s 3-for-3 with a home run in his career against Minnesota Twins right-hander Tyler Duffey (5-6, 5.23 ERA), and Boston is a heavy favorite in Thursday’s series opener.
Chase d’Arnaud, Braves (3,600): We like to call this the “Coors Field effect.” Colorado players will be popular in Thursday’s contests, but you shouldn’t overlook Braves players. Rockies right-hander Chad Bettis (7-6, 5.55 ERA) has been middling at best, and Atlanta’s expected run total (5.2) is relatively high. D’Arnaud is a nice, cheap option for GPPs.
