Florida Gators linebacker Cristian Garcia provided an assist in a potential rape attempt early Thursday morning outside of a Gainesville restaurant.

No kind of sexual assault would be happening on Cristian Garcia’s watch early Thursday morning outside of the 101 Cantina restaurant in Gainsville.

According to his account of what happened, Garcia and a co-worker saw a man — 34-year-old Christopher Shaw — press a woman up against a dumpster outside of the restaurant and stepped in to save a dangerous situation.

"“I was taking out the garbage, and I saw the man pressing the woman up against the Dumpster. At first the guy said she was his girlfriend, but about five seconds later I realized the girl was unconscious,” Garcia said in an interview with GatorSports.com.“I turned around and pulled the guy by the shoulder and said, ‘Get off.’ That pretty much ended the situation then. He was intoxicated and attempted to throw some punches, but he slipped and busted his face on the wall.”"

Garcia also mentioned to WLTV, a local television station in Florida, that the man’s friends stood by and did nothing to stop the potential rape.

GatorSports.com also mentioned that the entire situation was recorded on video and Shaw was later arrested and charged with sexual battery by Gainesville police.

The most disturbing part of the situation was the case of the 19-year-old woman involved in the attempted rape.

According to the police report, she regained consciousness at a hospital several hours later, she told police she didn’t know the man and had not consented to have sex with him.

She also said in the report that she attempted to push him away and told him no, “but was physically helpless because she was going in and out of consciousness due to her level of intoxication”.

Thank goodness there are still people like Cristian Garcia in the world to help prevent horrific events like this one from actually happening.
