Veteran journeyman quarterback Jimmy Clausen is set to have a work out with the Detroit Lions on Monday. Will he get an invite to Lions training camp?

According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, Jimmy Clausen will work out for the Detroit Lions on Monday. Clausen last played for the Chicago Bears and the Baltimore Ravens in 2015. He previously worked out for the Washington Redskins last week.

Clausen has been with three different teams in his mediocre NFL career to date. He was drafted by the then awful Carolina Panthers in the second round back in 2010 out of the University of Notre Dame.

Carolina finished with the worst record in football in 2010 with Clausen under center. He went 1-9 as a rookie for the Panthers and Carolina would go on to draft current franchise quarterback Cam Newton with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft out of Auburn University.

After backing up Newton for a few years and rarely playing, Clausen joined the Bears back in 2014. Clausen would start two games over the last two NFL seasons, two with the Bears and two with the Ravens. All four of Clausen’s starts since leaving the Panthers have ended in defeats for his team at the time.

Though Clausen has a terrible win/loss record as a starter of 1-13 in 14 career starts, he does seem to still have value in this league as a viable backup. Washington has their starter in Kirk Cousins and so does Detroit in Matthew Stafford.

Can Clausen and his 54% career completion percentage do enough to remove popular Lions backup Dan Orlovsky from No. 2 on the Lions’ quarterback depth? Will he even beat out former Iowa Hawkeyes and Michigan Wolverines starter rookie Jake Rudock for No. 3 on the Motown gridiron?
