DeMar DeRozan said he wants to leave a legacy of his own in Toronto.

During free agency this summer, a lot of players have been signing big deals and joining new teams. One of those free agents includes superstar, Kevin Durant, who ultimately decided to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder in order to sign with the Golden State Warriors.

Though, unlike fellow all-star Durant, DeMar DeRozan decided to stay with his team, re-signing with the Toronto Raptors for five years and 145 million .

The 2016-2017 NBA season was DeRozan’s best season to date. The two-time all-star put up averages of nearly 24 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Coming off of a big season some felt that DeRozan would sign with his hometown Los Angeles Lakers in free agency and try to somewhat fill the void left open by Kobe Bryant’s departure.

According to the L.A. Daily News, DeRozan said he ultimately decided to stay in Toronto instead of signing with the Lakers because of his legacy.

“When you have an opportunity to go home, that’s something that certainly would cross your mind. But it wasn’t anything. After I finish playing, I’m pretty sure I’ll live in L.A. But I just wanted to do something special and leave a legacy of my own in Toronto,” DeRozan said.

It’s good to see an all-star like DeRozan want to build a legacy in Toronto. Stars such as Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter and Chris Bosh before him have bolted the market of Toronto looking for greener pastures. Fans certainly want superstars to stay in their cities and win them championships, like Kevin Durant and LeBron James before him when he left to go to Miami, let’s see if fans give DeRozan the support he deserves for making this decision.
