Identifying the top high salary and value shortstop plays from around Major League Baseball for your July 28 DraftKings lineup.

Our goal is to help you win DraftKings contests with consistently strong lineups. To accomplish that, we’ll be highlighting some higher salary players worth paying up for, and some value picks that will help you save salary in key areas. These picks are specifically for DraftKings lineups, so all references to prices and fantasy points are based on DK figures.

As always, be sure to double-check final MLB lineups and monitor weather situations before locking in your DFS lineups.

High Salary

Xander Bogaerts, Red Sox (4,800): Bogaerts enters Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels with a nine-game hitting streak. Expect him to extend that run to 10 games against veteran right-hander Jered Weaver (8-8, 5.32 ERA). Bogaerts has reached double-digit DK points in five of his last seven games. He’s the top shortstop play on Thursday’s slate.

Manny Machado, Orioles (4,400): Machado carries a seven-game hitting streak into play Thursday against the Minnesota Twins and right-hander Kyle Gibson (3-6, 4.67 ERA). Machado, who also has eligibility at third base, is 3-for-8 in his career against Gibson and is hitting .311 against righties this season.

High Value

Eduardo Escobar, Twins (3,100): The switch-hitting Escobar normally isn’t much of a fantasy consideration, but in a game featuring Gibson and Ubaldo Jimenez (5-9, 7.38 ERA) on the mound, runs should be quite common. Escobar is 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles in his career against Jimenez, so he’s a legitimate GPP punt play.

J.J. Hardy, Orioles (3,000): You’ll have to slot Machado in at third base if you plan to stack a few Orioles hitters, Hardy included. The Baltimore shortstop is 3-for-7 with a double and home run in his career against Gibson. The Orioles’ expected run total (4.8) is one of the highest on Thursday’s slate. For this low salary, Hardy is worth consideration.
