Baltimore Ravens rookie running back Kenneth Dixon suffered a Grade 1 MCL sprain in his knee during Baltimore’s first practice of 2016 NFL training camp.

According to Garrett Downing from the Baltimore Ravens official site, rookie running back Kenneth Dixon suffered a knee injury in the Ravens’ first day of 2016 NFL training camp. Dixon appears to have suffered a Grade 1 MCL sprain.

Dixon was the Ravens’ fourth round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft after starring for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. He can still be an impact rookie for the Ravens’ running game, but expect the Baltimore staff to keep him out on the side of precaution for at least the early part of camp.

Dixon suffered the knee injury on a collision with undrafted rookie linebacker Patrick Onwuasor on a play near the sidelines after catching a pass in the flat. The Ravens tailback came up limping after the play, garnering the attention of the Baltimore medial staff. He went to the locker room and didn’t return for the rest of the Ravens’ first day of camp.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh commented on Dixon’s injury, saying that he “has just a slight, slight thing with the knee.” For now, it seems that Dixon will be assessed day-to-day and could return to Ravens practice as early as Friday.

While the news might be better than expected on Dixon’s knee injury, the same can’t be said for running back Lorenzo Taliaferro, who is still unable to participate after suffering a season-ending Lisfranc injury last season.

Baltimore has not had a clean bill of health in the infancy of 2016 NFL training camp. Wide receiver Mike Wallace failed his condition test and five key players including linebacker Terrell Suggs and wide receiver Steve Smith, Sr. are on the Ravens’ PUP list entering camp.

At least quarterback Joe Flacco seems to have his health after tearing his ACL last season. Perhaps the Dixon injury won’t be as bad as it looked on the first day of Ravens camp this summer?
