According to a report, the Kansas City Chiefs and Dontari Poe aren’t likely to get an extension done before the season starts.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a huge opportunity in front of them this season. After making the playoffs last year and finally ending their win drought in the postseason, the Chiefs are primed to be favorites in the AFC West and potentially a Super Bowl contender.

While they have one of the deepest rosters in the league, there are still business matters to attend to. While everyone is focused on whether or not the Chiefs and Eric Berry can get a deal done before the season starts, they also have defensive tackle Dontari Poe to think about as well.

According to Jason La Canfora, the Chiefs and Poe haven’t made much progress toward a deal and La Canfora notes that it is “doubtful” one gets done before the season.

That isn’t him saying they aren’t going to get a deal done, it more or less means that it’s being put off for right now as they still try to hammer a deal out with Berry.

The hope would be that they could get Berry to sign and then after the season begin working on a deal with Poe or use the franchise tag on him. However, if both go unsigned, then the Chiefs are going to have a tougher time getting these deals done.
